Willits Renaissance Faire (CA)

…Imagine Gretna Green located on the southern border of Scotland next to a beautiful loch. The town is buzzing with speculation as it hosts a harvest festival and market day while awaiting the chance to see Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland. The queen has only recently returned to her country from France. Saturday begins with a large parade and procession celebrating the Mary, Queen of Scots arrival.

Although not required, visitors may dress in suitable attire and blend in with the age of chivalry overseen by Queen Mary. Most of the hundreds of period participants will be eager to play their parts and stay in character when interacting with visitors

This year's festival features a variety of 16th century entertainment from games, musicians and dancers to a lively crafts' marketplace with nearly 50 period merchants. Throughout Saturday St. Michael's Salle d'Armes will host a rapier tournament. Swordsmen will vie for prizes and perhaps a token from a fair lady in the audience.

…Crafters include authentic jewelers and leather specialists, painters, wool dyers and bow makers all willing to share insight into their particular specialty. From flagons, to chainmail visitors can enjoy shopping for the unique wares found only in a Renaissance Fair. Where else can you purchase a catapult kit?

Some of those performing at the Willits fair include Myth and Magic, comedy and magic show; Fowl Tales, a one man, three parrot and one dog unique performance to charm and entertain the whole family; Trey Cromwell, a one man danger show that combines combining variety arts like juggling, contortion and escape artistry; The Merry Praynksters, a country dancing group, will whirl and wind among the patrons with their period dancing; Danse Macabre will progress through the streets enthralled in their dance with death.

A number of guilds have set up camp, awaiting the queen's arrival. These groups, all in character and dressed for the period include a bawdy group at the Porker's Sterne tavern; a group of highwayman for hire willing to capture and place someone in the stocks, for a fee;
